V-Rings
Description of V-Rings
V-rings are mainly used in combination with other seals, like radial shaft seals, but also as the pre-sealing element for bearings. V-Ring due to its design and functionality is suitable for a variety of applications. They are used to seal against dust, dirt, grease, oil or water splashes. Being available in different types, V-rings provide high flexibility in usage for pressureless operations. Typical applications for V-rings are rolling mills, farm machinery and electric motors.
Function and Working Principle of V-Rings
The V-ring seal is meticulously fitted onto the shaft, employing a snug undersized fit that allows it to rotate seamlessly along with the shaft's movements. Its ingenious design ensures that the flexible sealing lip maintains a flush contact with the sealing surface, adeptly compensating for any tolerances or angular deviations that may be present.
This flexible sealing lip serves as a formidable barrier, effectively thwarting the ingress of liquids while providing robust protection against external dust and contaminants. By forming a tight seal, the V-ring seal not only safeguards the integrity of the machinery's internal components but also enhances operational efficiency and longevity.
V-rings are made entirely of elastomers without fabric or metal reinforcement and are therefore easy to install. They can be stretched and, depending on size, pushed over other components like flanges, pulleys or even housings. This is a very valuable feature, especially when replacing a seal.
Advantages of V-Rings
Good wear resistance
Extends service life of the seal
Compensate the axial run-outs, eccentricity, and shaft misalignments.
Easy to install,
Can be stretched and drawn over flanges, flywheels, and whole bushing housings without costly extension work.
Very good price-performance ratio
Available in different default cross-sections for various application
Suitable for many industrial applications
